TRAINING THAT WORKS FOR YOU

Practical training and support for you and your dog

PERSONALISED TRAINING

Every dog is different, and every client is too. There is no one-size-fits-all when it comes to dog training.

Each Richer Dogs training programme is tailored to you and your dog, focusing on the skills that will make the biggest difference to everyday life, whether that’s recall, loose lead walking, focus around distractions, or calmer walks together.

TRAINING THAT FITS YOUR LIFE

Each session is clear and easy to follow, with exercises broken down into manageable steps so you know exactly what to practise between sessions.

The exercises are designed to fit into everyday life. If you have five minutes, you can build a useful skill and make progress without needing a long training session.

SUPPORT WHEN YOU NEED IT

Learning new skills can be hard, for you and your dog. That’s why every training programme includes support between sessions.

Whether you need guidance, video feedback, or a quick check-in, support is there when you need it. You’re not left wondering what to do when real life gets messy.

KEEP BUILDING SKILLS

Training doesn’t have to stop when your programme ends.

After your training, you may be invited to join suitable social walks, workshops, or skills classes. These give you and your dog opportunities to keep building confidence, practise around everyday distractions, and continue making progress.

"Zoe is great, amazing with my French bulldog helping with his pulling on the lead and reactivity with other dogs, highly recommend"
Holly & Lizzie - Nala & Lemon
“Zoe has helped us in so many more ways than we ever expected. She didn’t just train the dogs - she taught us how to handle situations, read their behaviour, and build better routines that actually stick. We couldn’t recommend her enough to anyone thinking about dog training, she’s been incredible."
Simon - Daisy & Donald
"I cannot recommend Zoe enough! Even as I’m writing this I feel I need to keep her a secret. Fred and I just don’t want to share."

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Richer Dogs offers practical family dog training for everyday life. This means training the skills that make day-to-day life with your dog calmer, easier, and more enjoyable.

Common training goals include help with pulling on the lead, reliable recall, focus around distractions, jumping up, over-excitement, engagement outdoors, and building better everyday habits.

I don’t offer specialist training such as gundog work, protection work, bite work, or competitive obedience. My focus is on helping companion dogs and their families build useful real-life skills that fit into everyday routines.

Richer Dogs 1-2-1 training is usually booked as a six-session programme over three months, with sessions roughly every two weeks.

At the start, we’ll agree realistic training goals based on what will make the biggest difference to everyday life with your dog. This helps keep the programme focused and achievable.

The gap between sessions gives you and your dog time to get familiar with the exercises, practise between appointments, and build new habits gradually rather than trying to rush everything in one go.

Each session focuses on clear, practical exercises you can use in real life, and you’ll have support between sessions if you need help. You can ask questions, send videos for feedback, or check in if something isn’t quite working as expected.

If extra areas of focus come up during the programme, I’ll always do my best to help. Depending on what’s needed, some goals may require additional sessions.

The aim is to make training feel manageable, useful, and realistic for everyday life with your dog.

The Ten Minute Method is about making training fit into real life.

Instead of trying to find time for one long training session, we break the exercises down into small, manageable pieces that you can practise throughout the day.

That might mean doing a few repetitions while the kettle boils, while dinner is cooking, or before you head out for a walk. A couple of minutes here and there can add up to really meaningful progress.

Dogs often learn better from several short training sessions than from one long session. Short sessions help keep training fun, focused, and easier to repeat.

Most clients aim for 3 to 5 short training moments across the day, adding up to around 10 minutes in total. This helps training become part of everyday life, rather than another chore on the to-do list.

And just as importantly, it gives you and your dog regular little moments of connection. Training becomes quality time, not homework.

Yes. I use treats in training, along with toys, praise, play, contact, access to the environment, and anything else your dog finds rewarding.

Food rewards are often especially useful in the early stages of training because they help us clearly show your dog which behaviours we’d like to see more of. If your dog does something and something good happens straight afterwards, they are more likely to repeat that behaviour again.

This is especially important for real-life skills like recall and loose lead walking. Dogs are already being rewarded by the world around them. Pulling can get them closer to an interesting smell. Ignoring a recall can let them stay somewhere exciting. Our job is to make the behaviour we want more rewarding than the behaviour we don’t.

As training progresses, rewards are used more selectively. Your dog won’t need a treat for every single thing forever, but rewards remain an important part of keeping training clear, positive, and motivating.

The aim is not to bribe your dog. The aim is to teach your dog that listening to you is worthwhile, enjoyable, and worth repeating.

The standard Richer Dogs 1-2-1 training programme includes six sessions over three months.

For many everyday training goals, this gives us enough time to introduce the exercises, practise between sessions, make adjustments, and build more reliable habits gradually.

Some behaviours may need longer, especially if they are more complex, have been practised for a long time, or if extra areas of training are added during the programme. If I think your goals are likely to need more than six sessions, I’ll be honest about that from the start.

Because the programme includes regular check-ins and support between sessions, we can keep track of your progress as we go. Towards the end of the programme, we can look at whether extra sessions would be helpful and tailor any ongoing support to you and your dog.

I don’t offer one-off training sessions to new clients, because lasting change usually takes time, practice, and support. Individual follow-up sessions are available for clients who have completed a three-month programme.

Yes. I believe training works best when you feel supported between sessions, not left to figure everything out on your own.

You can get in touch if you need a quick refresher on an exercise, have a question, want feedback on your progress, or just want to share a training win. I would much rather you reach out for help than struggle alone or stop practising because something doesn’t feel clear.

WhatsApp is usually the easiest way to stay in touch, because you can send messages, photos, or videos, and I can reply with written guidance or a video response if needed.

As I’m often out walking or training during the day, replies may not be instant, but I will reply within 24 hours.

Sometimes, yes, but it depends what is happening.

Over-excitement, frustration, barking, lunging, or struggling to focus around dogs or other  triggers can sometimes be described as reactivity. I understand how difficult this can feel when you just want to enjoy calm walks and help your dog cope better.

In many cases, this behaviour is an emotional response that can be improved with the right training, management, and support.

However, true reactivity or aggression can be more complex, especially if there is a bite history, significant fear, a medical issue, or a possible neurological condition. In those cases, I may recommend working with a qualified clinical behaviourist instead.

If you’re not sure what kind of support your dog needs, the best thing to do is get in touch. I can usually tell during the initial chat whether Richer Dogs training is likely to be suitable, or whether another professional would be a better fit.

The first training session usually takes place in your home.

This gives me chance to get to know you and your dog, talk through what’s happening, and see your dog in a familiar environment. Depending on what we’re working on, we may also go for a short walk so I can see what things look like in real life.

For example, with loose lead walking, the obvious issue might be that your dog pulls. What I’m also looking for is whether your dog is able to check in with you, engage with you, and remember that you are there at the other end of the lead.

Many training skills are much easier to teach at home first, where there are fewer distractions. Once your dog understands what we’re asking for, we can gradually practise in more challenging environments.

Later sessions may move outdoors or to suitable local areas, depending on your goals and your dog’s progress. How quickly we move through the levels will depend on your dog, the training goals, and how much practice has happened between sessions.
